ABOUT

I’ve spent my whole life creating in some form — starting with crayons and collage in Montessori kindergarten in Melbourne, Australia.

I’ve always stayed close to making things. I still play with Lego regularly with my son, and I’ve explored materials like pottery along the way.

I went to high school in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I first encountered digital photography, alongside sculpture, painting, life drawing, and other creative practices.

Later, I studied Graphic Design and Art History in Savannah, Georgia, which helped formalise my understanding of visual language and image-making.

After university, I spent many years working in hospitality as a manager and sommelier, while continuing to photograph throughout.

The pandemic created space to step back and re-engage more deliberately with image-making and design, including further study and the development of ongoing photographic and book-based work.

PRACTICE

Topics I explore on in my writing on the blog

My photography and writing focuses on several long-term themes:

  • Melbourne urban landscapes — documenting the changing suburbs, inner-city streets, and overlooked spaces of Melbourne.

  • Suburban change and gentrification — the transformation of shopping strips, industrial areas, and residential neighbourhoods.

  • The High Street Project — a long-term study of Melbourne's northern suburbs.

  • Edgelands and urban fringes — photographing the spaces between city and countryside.

  • Fine art photography prints — the process of selecting, printing, and living with photographs.

  • Photography books and independent publishing — through Photo Books Now and ongoing reviews of contemporary photography books.
