New Prints in hand

It’s great getting a couple of new prints done as I prepare to launch my new print store. I’m using Image Science in North Melbourne, as I have for as long as I can remember. Even with a relatively recent change of ownership, they continue to produce consistently excellent prints.

I’m working on building up my physical archive of newer work and starting to look at artist market opportunities around Melbourne. It’s been too many years since I spent a few days at the Rose Street Artists’ Market in Fitzroy, and it’s something I’d like to make a regular part of my practice again.

The real value of printing comes from stepping away from screens — seeing colour, paper texture, and scale in a physical form, whether A4 or A0. One of the key benefits of archival printing is longevity, using pigment inks and acid-free fine art papers designed to retain colour, detail, and tonal richness for decades.

Seeing a photograph as a print always takes the work further. The combination of paper texture and colour accuracy adds a physical presence that a screen can’t replicate. I’ve always printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag paper — it’s designed to last for decades, and it continues to feel like the right choice for my work, I do feel like should probably branch out one day, but it’s hard to stray from this beautiful paper.
