Post Card Sets

Top Row : East Brunswick, Fairfield, Fitzroy. Second Row Flemington, Preston

I've long loved postcards. Whenever I travel, I always buy a few. Sometimes they're sent home to friends and family, but more often they end up tucked inside books, pinned to a wall, or stored away as small reminders of a place and time.

Over the years I've produced a few postcard sets of my own, but it's been quite a while. Putting this new set together was a good excuse to revisit some of the photographs I've most enjoyed making recently as well as reviewing older work in a new context of post cards.

This first set features five photographs from my ongoing study of Melbourne and urban change. Like the prints in my store, the images focus on the everyday built environment and the ways Melbourne evolves over time. I’ve enjoyed seeing the same images in different printed formats and sizes.

Postcards are also an accessible way to collect and share photography. Not everyone wants to invest in a larger framed print, and that's perfectly understandable. A postcard can sit on a desk, be pinned to a noticeboard, slipped into a frame, or sent to a friend through the mail. The heavier paper stock and matt finish give them a more tactile, object like presence that sits somewhere between large fine art print and and object

They're small objects, but I've always thought that's part of their appeal. They have a way of carrying both an image and a memory and also, a great way to share images outside of social media.
